Chief Executive Officer

Josh Schwartz is a founding Principal and Chief Executive Officer of RPA. He leads the firm’s dynamic approach to retirement plan design and investment advisory services, with an emphasis on driving positive, measurable impacts on participant retirement outcomes. He serves on RPA’s Investment Committee and is actively engaged in all aspects of the firm’s strategic planning and growth initiatives.

Josh began his career serving public sector retirement plans in 1989. He has held various roles over the years, bringing extensive experience overseeing plan design, investment menu selection, RFP processes, internal back-office operations, compliance, and investment advice. As Regional Director of Nationwide’s Government Retirement Division, he led a team responsible for the day-to-day operations of over 175 public sector retirement plans ranging from under $1 million to over $1 billion in assets.

Josh co-founded RPA in 2000, with the goal of helping working Americans who have dedicated their lives to public service plan for a financially secure retirement. The firm continues to offer employers and their employees the opportunity to work with an independent registered investment adviser to better address their retirement needs. In 2013, Josh became firm’s Managing Partner and CEO.

Within the industry, Josh is a recognized voice on financial literacy and investor education. He frequently leads speaking engagements with public sector, finance, and business officer associations as well as industry professionals on topics including plan design best practices, investment solutions, behavioral economics, and retiree health care funding.

Josh is a longtime member of the National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators (NAGDCA), where over the years he has moderated sessions, participated on panels, and led breakout sessions. He is an active member of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA), including NAPA’s DC Fly-In Forum, where he supports industry lobbying efforts on important legislation affecting retirement plans. Josh also is active with Institutional Investor’s Defined Contribution Institute, regularly speaking at their Retirement Plan Summits and serving on multiple conference advisory boards.

Additionally, he serves on the Commitment to Inclusion Advisory Council for Cambridge Investment Research, Inc., a leading national financial solutions firm.

Josh is a graduate of the University of Chicago, a licensed registered representative with FINRA since 1987, and a registered principal since 1998. He holds FINRA Series 6, 26, 63, and 65 registrations and is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF).
